“a bold and radical coming of age story about letting go, self-acceptance, and finding hope in a hopeless situation.”
“A whimsical journey through the cold, dark wilderness of grief and into the warm sunlight of hope.”
BLOOM is a one woman show created by Jerilyn Armstrong. Set in a surrealist realm ruled by dream logic, Jerilyn tells the audience the true story of Carl McCunn, a man who enters the Alaskan Wilderness and never escapes. His death evokes the memory of her own father’s death, a painful time when she entered a dark metaphorical wilderness of her own, fearing she’d, too, never again see the light. She depicts her journey from darkness to light through a lip sync clown performance in which she embodies a Flower who’s lost its Sun, and is encouraged by her friend, The Moon, to push through her pain and find her joy. Blending sounds of the natural world with songs from Ethel Cain, SOPHIE, and Foals, Jerilyn uses storytelling, clown, and puppetry to weave these three distinct narratives together into a single story that takes audiences on a journey through the cold dark woods of grief and into the warm sunlight of hope.
